IronPlanet becomes third-largest construction equipment
auction company in North America
PLEASANTON, Calif. - January 5, 2004 - IronPlanet
(www.ironplanet.com), the online auction company for inspected
construction equipment and trucks, earned the third-highest
annual gross construction equipment auction sales among all
companies in North America.
Wiith nearly $95 million in gross auction sales in 2003,
IronPlanet is the fastest-growing heavy equipment auction
company, surpassing all but two of its competitors, both traditional
land-based auctioneers, in North American gross auction sales
volume. The IronPlanet web site is the number one online location
for used heavy equipment purchases, achieving success not
even the better-known eBay can match.
The success of IronPlanet is part of the increasing use of
the internet as a purchasing tool for cost-conscious businesses.
Typical of the level of commerce taking place on IronPlanet
is a recent (Dec. 11) auction in which online bidders purchased
more than $5.8 million worth of construction equipment and
trucks. For the items closing that day, there were 9,300 registered
online auction attendees with bidders from 49 U.S. states
and eight countries. Among the 312 items sold were backhoes,
compactors, dozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and on-road
trucks, with prices up to $135,000.
"Bidders trust our auctions with guaranteed inspection
reports, and trust brings fair prices for our sellers,"
states Bob Alleger, IronPlanet's CEO. "We're an easy-to-use,
low-cost vehicle, that brings market prices. The internet
is a great way for buyers to find equipment for sale beyond
just their local region, and by relying on our inspections,
they can make those purchases without traveling."
Founded in 1999, IronPlanet has grown to be one of the biggest
auction companies of used construction equipment and trucks.
Backed by Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Volvo, the company sells
equipment through online auctions. IronPlanet is the only
auction company to provide detailed, guaranteed inspection
reports for each piece of used equipment. If you are interested
