Over 6,300 Registered Bidders at IronPlanet Auction
PLEASANTON, Calif. – September 14, 2005 – IronPlanet (www.ironplanet.com), the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment in North America, sold $2.7 million of equipment and trucks in its Sept. 8 auction.
Over 6,300 registered bidders attended the auction. IronPlanet’s auctions are exclusively online, allowing buyers to bid from anywhere in the world. Buyers participated from as far away as the Netherlands, Columbia and Egypt.
“That’s almost three times the amount of bidders at a traditional auction … and much higher on a per lot or piece basis,” stated Bob Alleger, CEO of IronPlanet.
The auction drew attendees from across the U.S. and 15 other countries. Twenty-five bidders vied for a 2000 Bobcat 864G skid-steer loader that sold for $22,500. A 1997 Deere 862B motor scraper sold for the highest bid of $71,000. A buyer in Bolivia bid on equipment worth over $100,000 located in California, Kentucky and Florida.
Founded in 1999, IronPlanet has grown to be the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment. With investors such as Caterpillar, Komatsu and Volvo, IronPlanet sells a broad range of used equipment including construction, agricultural and trucks through online auctions. IronPlanet is the only auction company to provide detailed, guaranteed inspection reports for used equipment in its auctions.
