Bidder Wins Two Articulated Dump Trucks at IronPlanet Auction
PLEASANTON, Calif. – May 9, 2005 – IronPlanet (www.ironplanet.com), the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment in North America, sold $2.9 million of equipment and trucks in its May 5 auction.
A buyer in Tennessee purchased two 1987 Caterpillar D35C Articulated Dump Trucks located in Illinois. Both dump trucks brought bidders from the U.S. and Mexico, each selling for the highest bid of $38,000 and $43,000, respectively.
“When we auction duplicate items, each piece is on the block separately, which levels the playing field for all bidders,” commented Mike Rich, vice-president of sales at IronPlanet. “Physical auctions sell one piece and then offer the rest at the same price.”
The May 5 sale drew over 7,300 registered auction attendees with bidders from the U.S. and 12 other countries. On average, an item sold to a buyer more than 800 miles from its selling location, with 85% of the equipment going to an out-of-state buyer.
Founded in 1999, IronPlanet has grown to be the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment. With investors such as Caterpillar, Komatsu and Volvo, IronPlanet sells a broad range of used equipment including construction, agricultural and trucks through online auctions. IronPlanet is the only auction company to provide detailed, guaranteed inspection reports for used equipment in its auction.
