Excavator Sells from Alabama to California at IronPlanet Auction

PLEASANTON, Calif. – April 11, 2005 – IronPlanet (www.ironplanet.com), the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment in North America, sold $4 million of equipment and trucks in its April 7 auction.

A 2002 Caterpillar 322CL track excavator located in Alabama sold to a buyer in California. Twenty-two bidders from 17 U.S. states fought over the excavator that sold for $138,000.

“The used equipment market is still proving strong this year as we begin the second quarter,” commented Mike Rich, vice-president of sales at IronPlanet.

The April 7 sale drew over 8,100 registered auction attendees with bidders from across the U.S. and 15 other countries. On average, an item sold to a buyer more than 750 miles from its selling location, with 80% of the equipment going to an out-of-state buyer.

Founded in 1999, IronPlanet has grown to be the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment. Financially backed by Caterpillar, Komatsu and Volvo, IronPlanet sells a broad range of used equipment including construction, agricultural and trucks through online auctions. IronPlanet is the only auction company to provide detailed, guaranteed inspection reports for used equipment in its auction.
