Excavator Sells for $402,000 At IronPlanet Auction
PLEASANTON, Calif. – November 28, 2005 – IronPlanet (www.ironplanet.com), the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment in North America, sold $4.5 million of equipment and trucks in its Nov. 17 auction.
A 2003 Caterpillar 385BL ME excavator sold for $402,000. None of the four bidders physically kicked the tracks of the excavator located in Texas. It was the guaranteed inspection report that enabled the bidders to compete online until the machine sold to the highest bidder located in Oklahoma.
“Our inspection reports bring more information to the average online bidder than if the bidder traveled to see the piece in-person,” stated Mike Rich, vice-president of sales at IronPlanet.
Over 8,000 registered auction attendees from across the U.S. and 21 other countries participated in the unreserved online auction. A 1976 Ferguson SP912 compactor sold for $7,200. Thirty-three bidders vied for a 2000 Bobcat 331 mini-excavator that sold for the highest bid of $13,500. A 1999 Komatsu GD530A motor grader located in Florida sold to a buyer in Colombia for $61,000.
Founded in 1999, IronPlanet has grown to be the third-largest auction company of heavy equipment. With investors such as Caterpillar, Komatsu and Volvo, IronPlanet sells a broad range of used equipment including construction, agricultural and trucks through online auctions. IronPlanet is the only auction company to provide detailed, guaranteed inspection reports for used equipment in its auctions.
