Western Regional Sales Manager

Reports to: Vice President, North American Sales
Location: Near major airport within the Western Region

Position Summary:

The Region Manager will operate from an in-home office and will need to travel heavily to support the assigned field-based Sales Team, which includes 3 Area Sales Managers who each manage an average of 5 to 6 Territory Sales Managers. The geographical territory includes: AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, KS, MT, ND, NE, NV, NM, OR, SD, UT, WA and WY. The Sales Team’s primary focus is to call on owners of construction and agricultural equipment and secure consignments for sale via IP’s weekly on-line auction services.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Manage the team of sales representatives in the region including providing in-person support on deals as well as providing training and mentoring.
  • Evaluate existing sales personnel and provide appropriate training.
  • Recruit new qualified team members to provide growth and stability to the customer base.
  • Understand the sales conditions in the region and ensure the available opportunities are won.
  • Assist Territory Managers in structuring large deals and helping them close as necessary.
  • Provide forecasting for the region as well as budget projections and cost control.
  • Provide succinct status reports to the management of the company.

Education and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Must have a verifiable track record of successfully leading a wide spread, field-based sales team.
  • Multiple years experience in the sale of construction or agriculture equipment, particularly with the major manufacturers (Cat, Komatsu, Volvo, John Deere, etc.).
  • Previous experience in sales forecasting, budget projections, cost management and opportunity evaluation (SWOT).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have extensive knowledge of construction and agriculture equipment, particularly with the major manufacturers.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the used and new equipment marketplace in the US, including a solid grasp of the different roles played by OEMs, Dealers, Rental Companies, Auction Companies, Broker firms and End-User Contractors.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening and presentation.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to lead and motivate a successful team as well as be a part of a winning team.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft office suite.
  • Ability to multi-task is essential for success in this role as well as flexibility and adaptability.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires heavy travel (estimated at an average of 3 nights out per week)
