Title: Senior Accountant
Supervisor: Assistant Controller
Location: Pleasanton, CA

Position Summary:

The senior accountant's monthly duties will be focused on the monthly close, developing and monitoring reporting, controls, financial analysis and process improvement. Long-term projects will also be assigned, such as, process documentation and annual audit preparation. This position reports to the Assistant Controller.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Financial Analysis

  • Prepare monthly reconciliation schedules as assigned.
  • Perform initial review of reconciliations prepared by other members of the accounting staff for final review and sign-off by assistant controller.

2. Monthly Close Support

  • Prepare and enter journal entries as assigned for review and posting by the assistant controller.
  • Monitor status of closing process.
  • Perform initial review of standard monthly subsidiary journal entries for accuracy for final review and posting by the assistant controller.
  • Research and propose journal entries for non-standard transactions.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate accounting issues as assigned.
  • Assist in the consolidation of foreign entities.
  • Assist in the review of monthly internal financials to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to presentment to senior management.

3. Process Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive documentation of accounting processes.
    i. Desk references. ii. Policies and procedures manuals. iii. Narratives in preparation for SOX compliance.

4. Annual Audit Preparation

  • Regularly maintain schedules and documentation needed for annual audit preparation.
  • Work with the assistant controller to complete PBC list prior to commencement of public audit fieldwork.
  • Assist in responding to audit requests during the annual audit.

5. Other Project and Tasks

  • Other projects and tasks will be assigned based on aptitude and capacity.

Education and Experience:

  • 4 or 5 year degree in accounting or equivalent
  • 3+ years professional work experience
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Public accounting / auditing experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Base knowledge of accounting standards
  • Ability to develop and drive process improvement
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting systems
  • Great Plains and FRx is highly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to complete responsibilities efficiently and within the established timeframes
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • High-level of attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel

Physical Requirements:

  • Long hours will be necessary during month end and quarterly close
  • Frequent to constant computer usage
